The Playboys ( The Playboys ) is an American- Irish Drama by Gillies MacKinnon from the year 1992.

Action

The action takes place in 1957 in Ireland. The unmarried Tara Maguire is pregnant, which provides in her hometown for a scandal. It does not reveal who the father of the child; in particular, they can withstand the strong pressure that the local priest exerts on them.

The policeman Brendan Hegarty woos Maguire. He claims to be (rightly ), the father of the child. However, Tara rejects him, and when she falls in love with hiking artist Tom Casey, it comes to a violent confrontation between the two men. Casey's past life is also problematic. In the end, it seems logical that he and Tara together with child walk together to Dublin. The lexicon of the International film wrote that the film is " ultimately just a moody photographed melodrama ". He used " only in its infancy ," the " way to tackle problems of people between the desire for independence, desire for freedom, romantic longing and socially and morally prescribed behaviors ".

Awards

Gillies MacKinnon won the Audience Award at the Film Festival Würzburg International Film Weekend in 1993.
