Fareed Zakaria explains in his book that a post- American world is created, in which the United States of America will have less influence, but without being irrelevant. Background for this development is that the rest of the world economically, diplomatically and socially more important. This phenomenon he called "Rise of the Rest " ( "rise of the rest ").

In the remaining chapters of the book he explains, new problems and issues of the time and the possibilities of how to react or what developments might be needed to be able to adequately respond to this.
