The Prophet (book)

The Prophet (AKA The Prophet ) is an English literary and spiritual text of the Lebanese- American poet Khalil Gibran.

His most famous work Gibran was published in 1923 by the New York publishing button and since then sold millions of copies. The author has worked 25 years on the book.

From the early 1960s, the book in the American beatnik and hippie subculture was newly rezipiert. Today the book is still popular and will continue relocated in many languages. In German language alone, the organization is currently available in at least ten different translations. The original English version is now available in most countries in the public domain, because since the author's death more than seventy years have passed.

Action

The frame story is about the prophet Almustafa who has been waiting for his ship twelve years that will finally bring him back to his homeland. Before his departure, ask him some residents of the city Orphalese to give them one last time his insights on a particular topic ( " Speak to us of ..." ). The following 26 words of the prophets treat fundamental questions of human life, beginning with love, ending with the death. The posthumously published works The Return of the Prophet or The Return of the prophets, and in the garden of the Prophet continue the action and narrative and provide to the subjects of nature and faith closer to the center. Khalil Gibran's grandnephew Hajjar Gibran (* 1950) has written the sequel The Prophet Returns ( 2008).
