The Railway Series

The Railway Series, German: Railway Series, is a series of children's books on which the TV series Thomas the Tank Engine is based.

In the books it comes to stories of Thomas and his friends who live on the fictional Island of Sodor. Every story has a child-friendly teaching. 26 of these books were written by the Rev. Wilbert Vere Awdry in the years 1945 to 1972 and from 1983 by his son, Christopher Awdry, a total of 42 volumes published until 2011. The first inspiration for these books had already Wilbert Awdry as a child, because he lived next to a railway tunnel in the Great Western Railway in box. The first stories he wrote to cheer up his son, Christopher ( born 1940 ), who was ill with measles. All books consist of four stories.

In 2012, the first four books have been published in the UK digitally on Apple iOS devices. All books are published in English and Japanese.
