The rats God is a Yugoslavian feature film from the year 1976. He is a mixture of horror and thriller film, based on motifs from the story The Pied Piper of Alexander Grin.

Action

The film takes place after the First World War in 1925 in Czechoslovakia: There is high unemployment and political extremists recruit followers. Professor Boskovic experiences in an old book about a supernatural giant rat. This makes use of people and turns them into hearing giant rodents that have human-like shape. The followers of the giant rat are therefore not immediately recognizable. The giant rat wants to rule the world and infiltrated with his faithful society. Together with a young writer and his daughter fought the professor the project. The young writer who has fallen in love with the professor's daughter, discovers a secret event and escapes the bloodhounds of the giant rat in the last second. When the city administration is already firmly under control of the rat-men beat the three to: The professor has developed an anti-rat spray and fight the rodents. When he is murdered, the writer whose work leads to the end and may ultimately prevail.

" The award-winning Croatian film uses the ingredients of the genre with rare skill. Woven into the story are political reflections on the battle between good and evil and the nature of fascism that threatens to erupt again in times of crisis. "

The film was the Yugoslav contribution in the race for the Oscar for best foreign film.
