The Real Thing (UK band)

The Real Thing is a british soulpop funk band from Liverpool, founded in 1970.

The founding members were Chris Amoo 1970, Dave Smith, Kenny Davis, and Ray Lake. Musically, they went back to the Temptations and The Four Tops, but in the early years, their success was limited mostly to the clubs of England.

After Davis left the band, came 1976, the brother of Chris, Eddie Amoo, the band. The two had previously written a majority of the songs of The Real Thing, Eddie was but until then, the singer of the originating also from Liverpool Chants. When they were given then the song You to Me Are Everything by Ken Gold and Michael Denne offered, they managed the big breakthrough. The song reached as their first chart single place 1 The follow-up single Can not Get By Without You brought them equal second place behind and both singles as remixes reached two other top ten finishes in 1986 until today are classics.

In the U.S. soul charts and in Germany they had with these hits only notable successes, in the UK but they were regularly in the coming years on the charts. After her 1979 number - 5 hit Can You Feel the Force it but it has been quiet around them and also the remixes from 1986 could not re- kindle their career properly.
