The Regents

The Regents were an American doo-wop group.

History

Was founded the quintet in 1958 in the Bronx / New York. They took, inter alia, a composition of Chuck's brother Fred Fassert titled Barbara Ann, but they found no record company. Shortly after, the band broke up again.

When in 1961 Jacobuccis brother used the song during the audition of his band, the Regents version reappeared and this time should be published. The Regents got back together and the song became a hit.

The Regents had a second success in 1961 with Runaround. This song dated from the prehistoric to the Regents by former Member Ernie Maresca, who had also written the greatest success for Dion ( Runaround Sue and The Wanderer ).

Starting in 1962, success was then gradually financial disputes, the group fell apart.

Five years later, the Beach Boys fell a recording of this song in your hands, and they published in January 1966 their own version of Barbara Ann. Since the song became a million seller.

In the film soundtrack to American Graffiti (1973 ) the original of the Regents of Barbara Ann use and Guy Villari found then went with two new companions, Ron Lapinsky and Bob Falcone, but under the old name back on oldies tour.
