The Remarkables

The Remarkables are a mountain range in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. They are located on the southeast shore of Lake Wakatipu, the mountains rise steeply. The mountain is clearly visible from Queenstown. The highest point of the mountain is the Double Cone with a height of 2,340 m.
The New Zealand State Highway 6 runs at the foot of the Remarkables along the east coast of Lake Wakatipu. This stretch is provided particularly curvy and with climbs and descents and is therefore called The Devil 's Staircase ( "Devil's staircase ").
On the Remarkables ski area is 2.2 km ² total area and seven lifts. In 2007 a plant for producing artificial snow has been installed and is purchasing a new snow groomer. The season is from July to October.
In the Remarkables and exterior scenes of the film were The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the shot. Not far away are the Deer Park Heights, where large sections of the second part were shot.
