The Return of Philip Latinowicz

The Return of Filip Latinovicz (Croatian: Povratak Filipa Latinovicza ) is one of the most important works of the Croatian writer and poet Miroslav Krleža. The original edition was published in Croatian in 1932.

Action

The Return of Filip Latinovicz is about the decay of the higher society of Croatia in the period after the First World War. The painter Filip Latinovicz returns after over a decade abroad back to his Croatian homeland village. There he hoped to move away from a creative crisis and to paint pictures. In his head prevail emptiness and horror of the world, most people and the whole " mud". The encounter with his mother, the environment of the high society in which it operates, but evolved for him unpleasantly; he fails to take his work again. His crisis becomes even more so when he, a well-traveled and multilingual Caucasus Greeks hits the nihilists Kyriales. This "proves" him with his Latinovicz ' superior logic, the invalidity of its ( artistic and social ) ideas.

Style

Krleza language in this novel is rich metaphor and refers to the sensory perception of the painter Latinovicz, which would summarize his acoustic and visual sensory impressions in his paintings and always gets into long, marked by free associations mental debauchery.
