The Richest Girl in the World is an American comedy film from the year 1934 by William A. Seiter, based on a story of screenwriter Norman Krasna.

Action

Dorothy Hunter is the richest woman in the world. However, the public knows only its name, not their appearance. To undetected to come back from a trip to the U.S., her secretary Sylvia Lockwood to spend on them. Dorothy's fiancé Donald dissolves the engagement because he has fallen in love with another woman. Donald's statement that no man could love her as a woman, Dorothy angered so much that they commissioned Sylvia to pose on her engagement party for them.

At the party, Dorothy returns for Sylvia and meets the attractive Tony Travers know. Tony invites the alleged secretary to take a canoe ride, but takes its place with Sylvia. The furious Dorothy takes Sylvia's husband Phillip in pursuit. With a racing boat brings the canoe capsized. Tony swears that his intentions were honorable with Sylvia, but Dorothy subordinate to him that he would be the opportunity to marry a rich heiress assume.

Tony agrees to a contest. He is to Sylvia, which he still holds for the heiress, and advertise his savings to invest in a speculative venture, to finance his courtship. John Connors, the administrator of the heritage, keeping the competition was unfair. After two weeks, Dorothy asks Tony to make Sylvia during a trip in the Adirondack Mountains to marry him.

Tony is happy about the apparent confidence that Dorothy has in him. But Dorothy has the excursion planned so that Tony spends the first night alone with her. Tony tells her in front of the fireplace, how much he loved her. Even Dorothy's love for Tony grows more and more, yet she wants to prove that he loves her as a secretary. She urges Tony to make Sylvia next day a motion to Sylvia, tasked with, accepts.

At night, Tony sees Phillip sneaks into Sylvia's bedroom. At the breakfast table he knocks Phillip and Sylvia accused of infidelity. As a final test tells Dorothy Tony that she and Sylvia have swapped rooms. Tony has had enough of the game and drags Dorothy before the wedding altar. Now Dorothy is also safe over Tony's feelings. Yet she wants on the return trip that goes by ship right to still apply as a secretary. John Connors secretly instructed the stewards, the newlywed couple to be accommodated in staterooms.

Reviews

Wrote Andre Mountain Forest of the New York Times, the film would meet in his serene and unassuming way more than one might expect after reading the story. Norman Krasna describe the situation with fresh humor and intelligence.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the United States ( USCCB ) was impressed by the comedy. Director Seiter consider the improbable action easily and often funny, supported by a good cast that make all duplicity credible.

Norman Krasna received a 1935 Oscar nomination for best original story.

The premiere took place on 21 September 1934.

RKO Pictures secured the film rights to Norman Krasna's history for 4,000 U.S. dollars. For the film was loaned Miriam Hopkins by Paramount Pictures and Fay Wray by 20th Century Fox.

RKO filmed the story Krasna again. Appeared in 1944 under the direction of Richard Wallace the comedy Bride by Mistake.
