( He is colorful and adorable, and Depp has to put the heart clearly in the right place, but The Rum Diary fails, the dissolute source material one pointed focus. ) At Metacritic, the film received an average rating of 57 out of 100 points based on 34 reviews.

" The Blu- Ray Rum Diary is seen in content and technically nothing special and belongs to the average mediocrity. The story of journalist Paul Kemp ripples cozy in front of him and lets the actors no room aground in top form. RUM DIARY wasted potential because the theme of the film would have more to offer. "

" The easygoing lifestyle of the era before the Cuban Missile Crisis, the film captures perfectly shaped one: with side trips to dim rum dive bars to illegal cock- fighting and bizarre voodoo priests, which also ask agnostic journalist to higher counsel. "
