The Safety of Objects

The Safety of Objects is an American film from 2001 with Glenn Close and Dermot Mulroney in the lead roles. It tells the story of four families who have nothing to do with each other towards the outside. In the course of the film, however, shows the connection. Action

The action takes place after a fateful car accident. Randy, his little brother Johnny and Paul Gold went from a concert back home. Randy asks Johnny to a can of beer, which begins to spray when opened. This gets the car into the opposite lane and almost runs together with another car in which Paul's sister Julie is with her boyfriend. The vehicle with Randy, Johnny and Paul turns over, with Johnny Paul is killed and injured so badly that he falls into a coma. Annette Jennings had a love affair with Paul and now suffers greatly from Paul's coma. Randy kidnapped Annette's daughter Samantha. Since he considers it a boy, he hopes to replace his dead brother Johnny through it. After he has held one night, he can run, because he understands that she is a girl. Esther Gold, which has almost just spent the past year in order to care for her son Paul, who is in a coma, turns to something more to their neglected by her daughter Julie. You want a car for them to win in a competition in which the participants get the car that touches it at the longest uninterrupted. In the delirium in which they forfeited due to the acute lack of sleep, she realizes that life just coincidences exists regardless of whether you do things right or not, no matter how hard you try. Ultimately, she decides to help the whole family to go on with their lives, by leave of Paul and suffocated him.

The opinions on this film are very divided, as it actually has soap character. It belongs to the category of films that show a Lebensauschnitt that gets under the skin. In all families, the situation is not simple, for example Annette Jennings has just divorced and Jim Train goes straight down the career of the creek. Not everyone can do something with these partly sentimental scenes, so the film is sometimes classified as boring and meaningless. However it is interesting how the relationships are slowly built up in the course of the film. Initially, the audience does not understand how the different storylines are linked, but over time is sent through flashbacks, the architecture of the film revealed. The title of The Safety of Objects ( eng. The safety of things) says exactly what it is in the film: The actually ordered ( "safe" ) lives of four families will be thrown by an event totally off track. Like a domino effect from the car accident on the protagonists.
