The Samples

The Samples is a music band from Bolder founded in early 1987 in Colorado. The band's name comes from the fact that the members of their livelihood at an early age by tasting (English: food samples ) met from the local supermarket. The music is called " reggae with rock / pop influence" and as a cross between The Police and the Grateful Dead. The founding members were Sean Kelly ( Guitar / Vocals), Charles Hambleton (guitar ), Andy Sheldon ( Bass / Vocals), Jeep MacNichol (Drums / vocals), and Al Laughlin ( Keyboards / Vocals ).

History

Sean Kelly and Charles Hambleton met in 1985 in Burlington, Vermont, know at a public singing called "The Sheik ", just before the formation of the band Secret City in 1986. Having played together for a year in Burlington, they moved to Boulder, Colorado and make with Andy Sheldon acquaintance, a friend and former band member of Kelly's. Jeep MacNichol joined as the drummer for the band by answering an advertisement in the University of Colorado. When they played at the ground, Al Laughlin saw the group play on a link party and asked the group if they needed a keyboard player: An offer that took the band.

The band gradually gained fame and released their first album named after the band The Samples on their own label. After the release she signed a contract with Arista Records and re-released the same album in May 1989. However, was the collaboration with Arista short-lived, as the band was asked to change their sound. The contract with Arista was put on hold and the band continued to tour continues vertragslos. In 1991, Hambleton left the band. He appeared later on in the Pirates of the Caribbean and was co-producer of the film The Cove.

The Samples continued to tour and released their own album, Underwater People, by Eigenpublizierung, which included both studio recordings, as well as from live tracks. In 1996, the samples signed a contract with MCA Records and released their fifth studio album with Outpost. The Treaty of samples with MCA was terminated in this framework. Al Laughlin soon left the band along with MacNichol who strove for a single career. The samples united under What Are Records? and released three more albums: Transmissions from the Sea of Tranquility, The Tan Mule and Here and Somewhere Else. In 2000, the band began to release their albums independently. 2003 Andy Sheldon left the band. Since 1997, all band members have moved on to Sean Kelly.

The five founding members were reunited for the Mile High Music Festival in 2010. In recent times the band on the Denver Day of Rock played in 2011 and continued their tour continues.

A documentary film about the band went under the title The Best Band You've Never Heard in work. It was produced by Besame films and should be published in April 2012.

The song " Could It Be Another Change" from the band's debut album was 2012 Perhaps rather used for the film tomorrow.
