The Sound of Johnny Cash is the 13th studio album by the American country singer Johnny Cash. It was released in August 1962 with Columbia Records under the production of Don Law and Frank Jones.

Lost on the Desert is a story about a thief who is released from prison and wants to get his prey hidden in the desert, with him personally a spanner in the works makes the devil and ensures that the man died of thirst. I'm Free from the Chain Gang Now tells the story of a man who is released from prison after many years. Delia 's Gone is about a killer who has to fight after killing his beloved Delia with guilt.

A chart success landed the singer with In the Jailhouse Now, an old classic by Jimmie Rodgers. It reached number eight on the Billboard Country Songs and enhances a gambler who goes to jail and it should pull his teaching. In Them Old Cotton Fields Back Home is about cotton farmers and their childhood. The rest of the songs are about love, usually with a sad undertone.
