The Stepford Wives

The Stepford Wives is a 1972 published novel by American writer Ira Levin. A film of this book in 1975 directed by Bryan Forbes with Katharine Ross, see The Stepford Wives (1975); a second film starring Nicole Kidman was born in 2004, see The Stepford Wives ( 2004).

Action

Joanne Eberhard, the protagonist moves from New York in the fictional town of Stepford, Connecticut. There, a group of men living with striking submissive, helpful women. In the course of the story, it turns out that it is for the wives in fact constructed by the husbands robot.

Effect

The term " Stepford Wife " ( stepford wife ) was in the English-speaking world a synonym for the perfect, always cheerful housewife.
