The Stone Flower is a Soviet fairy tale film by Alexander Ptuschko from the year 1946.
Action
Slyschko grandfather told the village children a story that is said to have once taken place:
The old stone cutter Prokopjitsch has brought it to mastery of the rock malachite. However, the work with the stone grabs his health, and he is sick in his house and can not meet him brought to its tasks. The rich landlord tells him to pass on his skills to the next generation, but the children of the village have no sense of the rock and Prokopjitsch also no skill for teaching, so he chases them all children. He remains his foster son Danilo, the day long keeps sheep and is interested in devoting the flowers and even the smallest insects. One day Danilo considered a work of Prokopjitsch and know immediately how the malachite plate must be cut properly. The years pass and from Danilo is a young man. Prokopjitsch getting worse and worse and yet he must one day an order the landlord to accept: He has a bet with a Frenchman, to own a nicer box than he. Prokopjitsch to create the box within a few days of malachite, but soon breaks together sick and exhausted, without completing the work. Secretly manufactures Danilo to the box that is attractive to landlords. The lady of the house is now in Danilo a chalice in order, is said to have the shape of a flower. The work on the cup lasts all summer in which Danilo his mistress Katja little looks. They both want to get married, but put off Danilo Katja promises to the period after the completion of the chalice and Katja, to wait for him. When the cup is finished, he is admired by all. Danilo however is dissatisfied, but he wanted to create a job that makes one forget the artificiality of the stone and is a true reflection of nature.
The preparations for the wedding run as Danilo hears the voice of the Lady of the copper mountain. She calls him into her kingdom, where on the wedding day, the stone flower will bloom for one day a year, which points the way to true art. Danilo has heard of the Lady of the copper mountain and know that in the mountain the true artist, and possessed of the rock work, but also know that they are trapped inside. Mistress of the Copper Mountain promises him that the gates will be open for him at any time but he wants to possibly never return. Danilo follows her to see the Stone Flower, Katja and leaves just before the wedding ceremony alone back. In Kupferberg Danilo sees the big, bright, stone flower. He wants to create an image of her and starts working. Proposed marriage of the mistress of the copper mountain he rejects.
Although all Danilo believe dead, white Katja that he is still alive and possibly gone to the Mistress of the Copper Mountain. Production
The Stone Flower is based on legends and tales from the Urals, which had gathered Pawel Baschow in the band The chest of malachite ( Малахитовая шкатулка ). Baschow was also co-wrote the film. Work on the film began in 1945 and lasted until 1946.

Der Spiegel wrote in light of the German premiere in 1947:
