The Story of a Crime

Story of a crime is a Soviet animated short film made in 1962. It was the debut film by director Fyodor Chitruk.

Action

In the early morning, two housewives entertain in the courtyard of a skyscraper loudly with each other. The official Mamin appears and kills both women furiously with a frying pan. The police arrive and wants to take Mamin. The narrator turns the clock back 24 hours to clarify how it could come to the act of hitherto respectable citizen.

Mamin 's like getting up in the morning the day before and went to work. He is friendly, helpful and courteous, mothers holding the door open and offers seniors his seat in the subway at. His work he does, as always, reliably and quickly. After working 9-17 clock, the celebration evening begins. Mamin sits down at home to the open window and a drink when a great noise startles him. In the yard some men playing loudly Domino and smoke. Mamin closes the window, but also can not enjoy the TV, because another neighbor in deafening volume first, listening to music and then watching a boxing match. Resignedly Mamin switched off the television. Shortly before midnight he goes to bed but can not fall asleep because the neighbors about him have a celebration with dance and music. At about 2 clock Mamin is awakened again because others neighbors begin a loud marital quarrel, crockery smashed and throw this later after the reconciliation in the garbage disposal. Mamin has just fallen asleep again, when starts to send a pair of lovers in the house on the heating pipes knocking. Around 5 clock Mamin is already unnerved when he hears the alarm clock or the dripping of the faucet. Even his heartbeat now makes him nervous. It meets and Mamin has exhausted sleep found when the women in the courtyard begin their loud conversation. Mamin sees red.

The narrator knows that Mamin for his act will be condemned, but hopes to be able to provide with the explanation of the fact, previous deeds for enlightenment. At Mamin and the policeman drives past a truck. The driver begins shortly thereafter to discharge loudly the transported goods. On his vices is written " horn prohibited".

Production

History of crime was the directorial debut of Fyodor Chitruk. Narrator of the film is Sinovi Gerdt. Story of a crime was published in 1962 and ran at various film festivals. In 2002 appeared a crime story with English subtitles on the DVD Masters of Russian animation.

Critics have called a crime story in retrospect, a " mischievous satire on the disadvantages of living in tight Sowietbauten of big cities ."

Awards

On the San Francisco International Film Festival history of a crime in 1962 was awarded the Golden Gate Prize. On the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen 1963 the film won the Grand Prize.
