The Story of the Weeping Camel
The Story of the Weeping Camel is a German documentary from the year 2003. Script and direction come from the originating from Mongolia director Byambasuren Davaa and the Italian director and cinematographer Luigi Falorni. Both studied then at the University of Television and Film Munich.
Action
The film tells the story of a family of nomads, who lives with her flock of sheep in the Gobi Desert, and a newly -born white camel which was rejected by his mother. By a horse-head fiddle, the camel mother is brought into a Hoos ritual to adopt her baby yet.
It is a " fairy-tale story," says the lexicon of international film, " semi- documentary, semi- staged, which is told with beguiling images of the desert in slow pace. It is also about people in a deserted area, looking between tradition and progress their way into the future. "
Premiere
The film had its premiere at the Munich Film Festival.
Awards
The film received numerous awards. Thus, the directors have been awarded by the Guild of American directors for the best documentary of the year. At the Academy Awards in 2005, the film was nominated for Best Documentary in the category.
