The Sunflower

Il Girasole ( The Sunflower) was a short-lived electoral alliance in Italy in 2001 between the Federazione dei Verdi and the Socialisti Democratici Italiani (SDI ).

History

Already on 28 October 2000 brought the Grazia Francescato, politician Federazione dei Verdi, the idea of a new alliance in the game without having to commit to an ally. On 21 December 2000 in the daily newspaper La Repubblica published a call for the creation of a new alliance with signatures politicians of different parties. Because of disputes over a common line and also on the participating parties, the Partito dei Comunisti Italiani ended on 11 February 2001, the cooperation and entered alone in the elections to. On 26 February 2001, the project now has two allies was officially presented, the logo was unveiled on March 6.

Both parties were part of the larger alliance Ulivo and hoped for the proportional part in the selection of Camera dei Deputati a greater chance together to skip the 4 % threshold. The list received in the elections on 13 May 2001, however, only 2.2 % and hence no seats on the proportional representation. In the majority vote, however, were able to move on the common list of Ulivo in the Camera 8 (Verdi) and 9 (SDI ) candidates. Then the two parties went their separate ways.
