History

The Early Years (1990-1995)

The Tea Party was founded in 1990 by Jeff Martin, Stuart Chatwood and Jeff Burrows after a jam session at the "Cherry Beach Rehearsal Studios " in Toronto. All members of the band had played in their youth even in various other bands together. They called their new band The Tea Party after the infamous "hash sessions" of the famous Beat Generation poet Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs.

The Tea Party released their first self-titled album in 1991, and marketed it on his own label "Eternal Discs". The album had strong influences from the psychedelic rock and blues, and was produced by Jeff Martin himself. This he also maintained in future albums in order to ensure the complete artistic freedom of the band. 1993 The Tea Party signed a recording contract with EMI Music Canada and released their first major label album, " Splendor Solis ". The band sat open tunings and goblet drums as a style element to imitate Indian sounds, which has been continuously perfected during the entire career, but without losing the blues influence from his eyes. In 1994, the album was released in Australia. The single " Save Me" was this the start of a successful career in Down Under. The band won the support of the national radio station Triple J, which allowed the first tour of The Tea Party, was in "Save Me" the unconquered hit with every performance.

Significantly the changes of management and an unsatisfactory support from the record company heightened the sense discrepancies. This was also reflected in the first single, " Temptation" and the title song of the album. Nevertheless, it managed the band members to overcome the crisis and emerge stronger than before it. These experiences were then processed among others in subsequent albums.
