The Teddy Bears

The Teddy Bears was an American pop band that was founded in 1958 by the U.S. music producer Phil Spector. This contributed to the group as guitarist and backing vocalist. Other members were Annette Kleinbard and Marshall Lieb.

History

After Spector had reached his high school graduation in Los Angeles, he wrote the song "To Know Him Is To Love Him " whose title comes from the grave stone of his father. After an audition with " ERA Records " a record was recorded at Gold Star Studios for $ 75. The single was released in August 1958. It took two months until the board has established itself in the charts.

Finally, the song for twenty-three weeks remained in the U.S. Top 100 ( of which eleven weeks under the top ten ) and stood in the period from December 1 to December 15 a total of three weeks at number 1

Thus, the 17 -year-old Spector had written the best selling at this time in the U.S. record, arranged, played, (co-) sung and produced.

The following recordings of the Teddy Bears were indeed comparable in quality with their debut, but sold poorly and so Spector released the band within a year again.

However, Phil Spector was not the only one the band who then launched an illustrious career. Annette Kleinbard published under the name Carol Connors some songs and wrote songs, including the 1977 Oscar-nominated theme song ( " Gonna Fly Now" ) from Rocky.
