The Thousandth Anniversary of Islam Mosque

The Sakabannaja Mosque (Russian Закабанная мечеть, also Zakabannaja Mosque transcribed ), and Mosque of 1000 years anniversary of the adoption of Islam ( Мечеть 1000 летия принятия Ислама ) or short Jubilee Mosque ( Мечеть Юбилейная ). is located in the Russian city of Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Based on the plans of the civil engineer AJ Petschnikow of 1914, the mosque was built in 1924-1926, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the Islamization of the Volga Bulgars in 922 by Khan Almusch. The permission to build the mosque was Stalin personally. It was financed by private donations from Muslims. It was the only mosque that was built during the Soviet era in the region. On February 6, 1930, was concluded in the context of Soviet persecution of the Muslims; in 1991 it was reopened.
