History

Looking for a companion for his numerous contract artist of producer Joe Meek in 1961 sought through an advertisement by five musicians. Among other things, Clem Cattini and Alan Caddy reported who had already played with Johnny Kidd & the Pirates, and the German Heinz Burt. Burt left the group in 1963 and launched a solo career as a singer, but this legally success. His only known titles largely remained Just like Eddie.

The tornadoes were heard, among other things in the background when John Leyton and Billy Fury. Meek, who could even play or sing no instrument had a great sense of music and composed even some titles, then grossed the " tornadoes ".

While the first single, Love and Fury was not a success, but with the second single, he had a stroke of genius. Named after the U.S. communications satellite Telstar their second instrumental piece was a catchy tune and million-seller. Not only in the UK it was a number -one hit in the U.S., the " tornadoes " were the first British band who led the charts there in time before the " Beatlemania ". In Germany, they came up with the title to # 6

Nevertheless, the " tornadoes " remained primarily a backing band and the members changed so fast that the end of 1964 a musician from the time of their greatest hits was left. And just as quickly it went well with their hits down. Followed with another Globetrotter top 5 hit in the UK, so the next two singles were ran only in the top 20 and two more singles only under further.

With Joe Meek's death in 1967 ended the story of the " tornado ". Came in 1975 four of the five original members, although once again as " New Tornados " together, but their re-recording of Telstar little attention has been paid. On June 15, 2013 died keyboardist Roger LaVern.
