The Trammps

The Trammps were an American soul band.

The Trammps were from Philadelphia and were one of the first bands in the disco genre. They had their first major success in the U.S. in 1972 with Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart. The first real disco song they released was Love Epidemic (1973). The best known is probably her Disco Inferno (1976 ), which appeared in 1977 on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever and climbed in May 1978 in the Billboard charts at number 11.

Other hits were, inter alia, Hold Back the Night ( 1975) and That 's Where the Happy People Go (1975). Published in 1977, the Trammps song The Night the Lights Went Out, as a reminder of the power outage in New York City on July 13, 1977. September 19, 2005 were included Disco Inferno into the Dance Music Hall of Fame. The singer of the band, James T. Ellis, died on 8 March 2012 at the age of 74 years in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
