The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

Salt in her hair (English Original title: ". The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle ") is a travel story of the U.S. youth book author AVI ( pseudonym for Edward I. Wortis ). She describes the voyage of a young girl in 1832 and the confrontation of the sailors with the captain. The book was in German language in 1992 by Carlsen ( translated by Josef Pesch ) first published and learned several new editions since then.

Action

The 13 -year-old Charlotte Doyle is traveling on a ship from England, where her family was temporarily pulled back to their American home in Providence Rhode Iceland.

The family has traveled without Charlotte back to America, because they should only bring the school year at a school for young ladies to an end. Charlotte must take appropriate ship alone on one of her father's business trip so. It should ride two other families with children in Charlotte's age, however, do not appear on the harbor.

On the agreed date Charlotte is picked up by a business partner of her father at the port. He is said to them, accompany them to the ship, the Seahawk. When he told her about the ship, mentioning the name of the captain, the carrier disappears. Also another carrier turns around without a word after he has seen the Seahawk.

A sailor on board warns them to travel with the Seahawk, but it does not succeed Charlotte to persuade someone to take them to another ship or to send it back to the director of their school. The ship's cook is Charlotte then a knife for any necessary defense and Charlotte offers his friendship, but she refuses for social reasons.

On Lake Charlotte finally learns Captain Jaggery know. She has great respect for him and will not believe, though it looks like jaggery and mocks his team exploits the tales of his cruelty. After a sailor is killed by her guilt, however, they will move to the side of the crew and after a dare even part of the team.

The novel tells the journey of the young protagonist in diary form.
