The Waifs

The Waifs are a folk rock band from Western Australia. For the original members of the band are Josh Cunningham (guitar, vocals ), and sisters Vikki Thorn ( harmonica, guitar, vocals) and Donna Simpson ( guitar, vocals). Her current tour band additionally consists of Ben Franz (bass ) and David Ross MacDonald (drums).

History

The Waifs were founded in 1992. The brother and sister Donna Simpson and Vikki Simpson (now Vikki Thorn ) of Albany, Western Australia, toured with a duo called Colours. They met Josh Cunningham during a concert in Broome.

Their album Up All Night from 2003, reached double platinum in Australia and was among the top 5 of the Australian album charts. In addition, The Waifs, the ARIA Awards won in October 2003. The band played as the opener of Bob Dylan's tour of Australia in 2003. He was so impressed that he took the band on his North American tour in the same year, which also includes a gig at Newport Folk Festival was one.

Together with John Butler The Waifs part of the independent label Jarrah Records.
