The Watch (Band)

The Watch is an Italian progressive rock group.

Band History

The foundation for The Watch put the singer and composer Simone Rossetti ( born April 30, 1971 in Milan ) in the mid 1990s when he formed the group The Night Watch. After sympathetically received by critics and audiences album Twilight (1998) and a tour of Europe parted ways the musician due to musical differences. Rossetti then took contact with Marco Schembri ( born October 29, 1965 in Milan ), Roberto Leoni ( born January 24, 1971 in Milan ), Valerio Vado (only in Ghost ), and Gabriele Manzini, which he already partly from earlier musical projects knew her. They set up in January 2001 The Watch and published in the same year in that occupation, the album Ghost.

For the 2004 released second album Vacuum guitarist Vado by Ettore Salati ( born April 29, 1974 in Milan ) was replaced, who accompanied the band since 2001 at live appearances.

On April 23, 2007 she released the third album Primitive, followed by Planet Earth? on 20 February 2010. The fifth album Timeless was released on February 21, 2011.

Music

Stylistically similar to the musical works of The Watch of the music of Genesis during the Peter Gabriel - phase ( 1970-1974 ). The Watch are thus the genus of the retro - Progs assign. Unlike Genesis tribute bands such as The Musical Box, the musicians restrict ourselves but not in a truest representation of compositions and stage show of their models, but write separate pieces that nevertheless often take on songs by Genesis reference. Special hallmark of the group is the voice of Rossetti's, which is very similar to Peter Gabriel.

The band's music splits the critics into two camps. On the one hand the albums of parts of the critique are praised as "the best Genesis LPs that do not originate from Genesis". Others, however, complain about the lack of stylistic originality of the band. By oriented less to Steve Hackett guitar playing of won for the second album by guitarist Salati and the use of digital keyboards, however, the sound of the group gained modernity and autonomy.
