The Way You Make Me Feel is a song by Michael Jackson and was the third single from the Bad album. In the original version of the song is 4:58 minutes long. The single was released in November 1987 by Epic Records. It was the third number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in a row for Michael Jackson.

Background

The Way You Make Me Feel was composed and recorded in 1987 for Jackson's seventh studio album Bad. Composer and co-producer of the song was Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones while it produced. On November 9, 1987 Epic Records released the title as the third single to I Just Can not Stop Loving You and bathroom. Jackson planned a triple album with more than sixty songs before he was persuaded by Quincy Jones to record only one disc. The Way You Make Me Feel and ten other songs were chosen for it.

The piece has blues harmonies and a groovy rhythm. It was named as an example for older soul influences to the bathroom.

Live

The Way You Make Me Feel was listed among others on the Bad Tour 1987. Also at the Grammy Awards 1988, a shorter 3:23 - minute version was sung. Further performances were seen on the tours and concerts in New York in 2001. At the concert at Madison Square Garden Jackson sang a duet with Britney Spears. Also in the movie This Is It is a show to see, which was scheduled for the actual This- Is- It- tour.

Video

The music video was produced by Michael Nesmith and Joe Pytka directed the film. His dance partner was the model and singer Tatiana Thumbtzen. The video was released on October 31, 1987 and received a nomination at the next bathroom MTV Video Music Awards in 1988 for Best Choreography. Michael defeated with two videos but his sister Janet with The Pleasure Principle.

Reception

The song was recorded mostly positive. In Allmusic it is counted among the four "Track Picks", selected pieces from the Bad album. Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote, of all the songs on the album could just The Way You Make Me Feel, the title song and I Just Can not Stop Loving You keep up with the previous album.

Cover versions

The song has been covered a few times, including by Shakaya 2003 and the Jonas Brothers 2010. In December 2009, John Legend and Stevie Wonder sang the song at the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden. Whitney Houston sang the song in 2010 on the tour for the album I Look to You.
