The Weathermen (hip hop group)

The Weathermen is an American hip hop group from New York City. It consists of rappers Aesop Rock, Yak Ballz, Cage, El -P, Breeze Brewin and Tame1. Former members were Copywrite, Camu Tao, Vast Aire, Jakki da Motamouth and Masai Bey.

The name The Weathermen (English for The weathermen ) is a reference to the left underground organization Weathermen who were involved in the U.S. in the 1960s and 1970s in attacks on government buildings.

History

The group formed at the end of the 1990s in New York City as a loose association of like-minded musicians. The first official release of the group, the song Same as it Never Was, was released in 2001 on the Definitive Jux label Definitive Jux Presents II Sampler Two more songs were published in 2003 on the compilation Eastern Conference All-Stars III of the label Eastern Conference Records. In the same year, they released a mixtape called The Conspiracy on the same label.

2004, there was a dispute between Cage on one side and Eastern Conference Records, Copywrite, Jakki da Motamouth and Masai Bey on the other side, which then left the group and devoted themselves to their solo projects. The Weathermen published from then on only on Definitive Jux. As a new member, after this dispute Aesop Rock, the joke was also already under contract with Definitive accepted as a new member.

Again and again the release of the album The New Left was announced in press releases and songs of individual members, to which it never came. Because after the death Camu Taos in May 2008, it was quiet around the group and member Cage said there would be no new Weathermen album more.

2008 appeared on several blogs and websites the mixtape Vampires. Whether it is an official release, is questionable as contradictory statements of the individual members have been discharged to the status of the tape.
