The series won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. A total of 20 Emmys went beyond to individual actors, directors, screenwriters and cinematographers. With a total of 9 awards in one year ( 2000) the first season is the most widely honored in a year television series in American history. The series received the 2005 Humanitas Prize.

  • The episode " Isaac and Ishmael " was produced in response to the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 and already aired on October 3, 2001.
