Action

The girlfriends Alexandra Medford, Jane Spofford and Sukie Ridgemont, all in their forties, are eyeing the suspicious outsiders who live without a man in the small town populated by conservative citizens Eastwick in New England. Alex is a sculptor, the music teacher Jane just got divorced and Sukie with their many children writes for the local newspaper.

Once a week they meet to exchange coffee and gossip about their aspirations. At one of these meetings them comes a fabulous idea: Why not simply a dream prince, invent a wish man of all three can satisfy the needs? And so enters the mysterious " Daryl van Horne " the scene. Officially, the buyer is from the old, mysterious Lennox villa as an art collector, but in reality it is none other than the devil himself

And devilish are the forces which he uses to achieve its goals: Each of the three women he seduces specifically to the person her preferred way. Although the ladies are initially jealous of each other, the binding of the three proves to be permanent, because now they have the help of Daryl recognized her magical potential and begin to enjoy their existence on excessive festivities sensual.

However, someone else has noticed that it no longer goes on in Eastwick with the right things: Felicia, wife of the chief editor of the local newspaper, working for the Sukie. It is considered a pious parishioner and considers it her duty to make the population to " evil " attentive. Therefore, it initiates an article in which it points to decadent orgies in the old villa. The outraged residents of the town react as expected and begin to insult the girlfriends as whores. So Felicia is a nuisance to be turned off, and Daryl initiated with the help of his witches only one accident in which she breaks her leg and later an incident in which she is killed.

Frightened by the extent of their power and full of honest grief for Felicia decide to three, for the time being no longer meet in the villa, so no more damage is still done. Daryl, deprived of his playmates, is beside himself with rage. When he can not move any of her friends to give way, he adds Sukie to terrible sufferings which bring them to the hospital. Slowly the three is clear, with whom they have let themselves. Alex takes it eventually to placate Daryl. As soon as Sukie recover, they make one last time in the villa in order to destroy Daryl. Using a Voodoo doll representing Daryl, they manage to get rid of him.

But the whole thing has a sequel: After nine months of each of the three women brings a child from Daryl to the world - and so alive " the devil in man " more ...

The film was ( there mainly on Castle Hill ) filmed in Massachusetts and California. He played in the cinemas of the United States, an approximately 63.77 million U.S. dollars.

Reviews

Roger Ebert praised highly in the Chicago Sun - Times on June 12, 1987 presentation by Jack Nicholson, and also those of Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon. In some scenes, the effects would be in the foreground, however, the film is largely a plausible story about implausible figures, what the performance of the actors, however, would make up.
