The Witches of Eastwick

The Witches of Eastwick (English Original title The Witches of Eastwick ) is a novel by John Updike, published in the German translation by Maria Carlsson 1984 in English and 1985. 2008 appeared a sequel, which was translated into German by The Widows of Eastwick 2009.

Content

The three witches Jane, Alex and Sukie are all divorced and spend their boring life in the small town of Eastwick, Rhode Iceland, New England. They are aware of their magical powers consciously and insert it. For example, Alex conjures a storm to clear the beach of young people and to have him all to herself and her dog.

The three women are constantly buys in search of the perfect husband, until one day the art collector Daryl Van Horne, the Lenox mansion in Eastwick. He seems to be the man on whom have been waiting for the witches, and so they begin a relationship with him. When Jenny, the adult daughter of a lover of the witch Sukie, Daryl married, bring the three witches, the girls jealous of magical way with a voodoo doll to.

It turns out that Van Horne was in financial difficulties and Jenny got married primarily because of the heritage. However, the joint fact -torn each other the ratio of the witches. Each of them conjures up for a husband, and they pull away from Eastwick. The Lenox House is divided by the distraining Bank in apartments.
