The Woman in White (musical)

The Woman in White is a musical based on the novel of the same name The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, who appeared in 1860. The music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by David Zippel, the and the book by Charlotte Jones. The premiere took place on 15 September 2004 at the Palace Theatre in London. Production continued until February 25, 2006. Broadway premiere was on 17 November 2005 at the Uris Theatre. The director for both productions took over Trevor Nunn.

Background

Andrew Lloyd Webber was, according to his last two rather less publicized works, with The Woman in White back in the favor of critics and audiences. Michael Crawford celebrated his comeback with this play in London's West End, having previously been the Count of Krolock in Dance of the Vampires, the Broadway version of The Fearless Vampire Killers, played.

Action

The plot keeps clear of the novel. The drawing teacher Walter Hart Right encountered on his way to his two new students, the half-sisters Marian and Laura, a mysterious woman. When Marian and Laura arrived, he realizes that Laura looks very similar to the mysterious woman. He falls in love with Laura. It is, however, with the unsympathetic character of the story, Sir Percival Glyde, engaged. This forces them to use force to prenuptial agreements, the contents Laura does not know. Again and again tried to intervene in the action, the mysterious woman. Among other things, she tries to stop the wedding of Laura and Glyde. As yet, a certain Count Fosco comes into play, come by and by new truths to light.
