The woman question

As a woman, matter of public discourse is called, which deals with the question and the demand for equal rights for women in modern societies.

Using the term used was " woman question " in the second half of the 19th century in parallel and, building on the "social question ", which was then raised by the social upheavals and Verelendungen whole sections of the population during the Industrial Revolution. In the period around the 1848 Revolution, the area of ​​conflict has been particularly occupied with the concept of " women's liberation ".

It launched its " woman question " from the first wave of the women's movement that had formed in the German-speaking area of the 1848 revolution, which, however, was subject to repression soon after the failure of the freedom movement in the states of the German Confederation, among other things through until 1908 prohibitions in the Membership of women in political clubs or even their attendance at meetings with political content.

As the core of the conflict, the social promise of the rights of freedom and equality can be all viewed by the French Revolution of 1789, the implementation but thereafter systematically excluded women and so to this day drew continuing social conflicts. The German women's and gender researcher Ute Gerhard described this as " the flaws of themselves as 'modern' societies designating ".
