The World of Skin

Skin (including The World Of Skin) was a musical side project of Michael Gira, singer and band leader of the U.S. formation Swans, and Swans singer Jarboe.

Band History

The Michael Gira Swans were formed in 1982 initially underwent experimenting with monotonous rhythmic and atonal sounds power rock phase. Starting with their cover of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart, published in 1987 and the album Children Of God Swans both orchestral and acoustic sounds were working in their compositions. This tendency led singer / band leader Michael Gira and Jarboe singer, then privately romantically involved, in their side project strengthens skin continues. In 1990, after the third album Ten Songs For Another World, the project was terminated. From 1991, joined Jarboe - in addition to their continued involvement in the Swans - with solo releases under his own name in appearance.
