Theater der Schatten

The theater of shadows, founded in 1984 by Norbert Götz, dealing with different forms of representation of contemporary shadow theater. In the 1980s created pieces in the technique of polarization, through which the light can be decomposed and appears in color on the canvas. In a then following ten-year experimental phase bulbs were from the field of halogen lamps out developed whose only emission is still a tiny dot and therefore generate exceptionally sharp contoured shadows and reflections.

The use of such light sources expands the possibilities of representation many times: three-dimensional figures can be used, and out from the screen, the light can be moved and it is possible to play for the audience visible in front of the screen. In any case, the shadows remain sharp.

The "Theatre of Shadows" recorded two fixed venues in Bamberg. The St. Catherine's Chapel in the cathedral square, the oldest area of the town, is the venue for the track " Light and Shadow in Bamberg ", a theatrical journey through the city's history. The " New Palace " in the Luitpold street is the space for the premieres of theater. During the winter months is the theater on tour mainly in southern Germany and the bounding countries.

The repertoire of the theater includes work for adults as well as children. It is characterized by a diverse use of light and shadow and time again new forms of dramatic representation.
