Location and building

The Avenue Theater is located in the Max -Brauer- Allee 76 in Altona -Altstadt. At the time of the founding of the theater the road was simply called Avenue or Avenue Altona, hence the name of the theater. The renaming by Max Brauer took place only in 1975. Opposite the theater is on the other side of the street the gymnasium Avenue, diagonally opposite side of the intersection Julius-Leber -Straße, the district court Hamburg- Altona.

On the ground floor of the house was a small movie theater, which had a small stage behind the canvas on which the post-war comedies were performed. This theater closed in 1967 and was hired by the theater founder Uwe Deeken in the same year, to turn it into a children's theater.

The theater has a hall with a stage and auditorium, which is used by children's theater and chamber opera alike. In 1996, the stage was renovated and equipped with original stage machinery for the opening of the chamber opera. Between stage and audience is a small orchestra pit in the seven musicians have space. The hall can accommodate 226 spectators on upholstered chairs in red and gold single place. At the auditorium closes the side of a back yard glazed hall with bar and restaurant.
