Theater im OP

The theater in the OP ( ThOP ) is the University Theatre at the Georg- August-Universität Göttingen.

The ThOP 1984 was founded by the dramatic department of the Department of German Philology. Its main task is to provide practical theater skills and experience. The ThOP uses a former storefront operation room of the old surgical clinic of the University of Göttingen as a stage, from which is derived the name. A special feature of this game is its local arena stage. In contrast to the usual box sets sitting here the audience on three sides and stands on the drama takes place in the middle of the room.

In addition to theater interested German students the ThOP and students of all other disciplines and in general to all interested people of the area is open to gain practical experience in the theater. Aside from acting, the ThOP also provides space and field of activity for prospective or ausprobierende makeup artists, stage designers, lighting technicians and directors.

2004 wrote the ThOP for the first time a playwright competition. The winner was Thor Truppel with " 0438 & 0439 or And then came the flood ." The piece was premiered in 2005. Won the 2006 Hans Jürgen Kugler with "Out of the Dust", which was performed in October 2006 and at the 24th North German Theatre Meeting 2007. 2007 won Dieter Baldo " Jenny Blum ," which premiered in April 2008. In 2009 and 2011, playwright competitions were aligned, and on the themes " theater of the Yucca - morbid, funny and banal urban myths " and " ... and what do you dream at night? ". The current competition is titled " After The Fall". The tender ran until 15 August 2013.
