Thenmarachchi

Thenmarachchi (Tamil: தென்மராட்சி Teṉmarāṭci [ tenməra ʈʂi ː ] ) is a region in the Jaffna Peninsula in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

The Thenmarachchi region nimt a the southeastern part of the Jaffna peninsula and has an area of 385 square kilometers. Thenmarachchi is separated by the Vadamarachchi lagoon of the region Vadamarachchi in the north and by the Uppu Aru Lagoon - of the region Valikamam in the West. To the south lies the lagoon of Jaffna. The largest city is Chavakachcheri. Administratively, the northern part Thenmarachchis ( Division Thenmarachchi ) belongs to the Jaffna district, the southern part ( Division Pachchilaippalli ) for Kilinochchi district. The population is around 73,000 (as of 2012).
