Theo Verschueren

Theo Verschueren ( born January 27, 1943 in Sint Jansteen ) is a former Belgian cyclist.

1963 Theo Verschueren won the Tour of Belgium for amateurs. In the same year he stepped over to the professionals and was active as such until 1974. In the eleven years of his professional career Verschueren won numerous victories in various disciplines to rail and road.

Twice was Theo Verschueren world champion stayer, 1971 and 1972, after he had already become 1969 and 1970 Vice World Champion. Five times he won the title of European Champion in Dernyrennen. Eleven times was Verschueren Belgian champion in these two disciplines. In 1970 he set a world hour record over 64.546 km behind derny leadership of Norbert Koch, on his home track in the Sportpaleis of Antwerp.

Verschueren also launched a total of 67 six-day races, of which he was able to win two in Antwerp: 1968 with Sigi Renz and 1972 with René Pijnen and Leo Duyndam.

Theo Verschueren was born in the Dutch province of Zeeland, but is Belgian. He is not related to his compatriot Adolph Verschueren. The " Verschueren Cycling Biking Team " held annually near Antwerp Every man race called " Theo Verschueren Classic" about 75 kilometers around the village Sint -Niklaas. The race starts in front of the local bike shop by Verschueren.
