Theobald I, Count of Bar

Theobald I ( c. 1158, † February 13, 1214 ) was from 1190, Count of Bar and from the right of his third wife, from 1197 Count of Luxembourg. He was the son of Count Rainald II of Bar and Agnes of Champagne.

Biography

As a younger son of the Count of Bar he first received the dominions Briey and Stenay. In France, he was by his mother to the family of the Counts of Champagne, the house of Blois, to the Duchy of Lorraine faced hostile at the regional level, and on a regional level with the King Philip Augustus of France, whose cousin he was to the regency in France fought.

He died in 1214 shortly before the battle of Bouvines. His property was divided, the parental heritage was his son, his wife's inheritance went to Duke Walram IV of Limburg, who married his widow.
