Theodor Aufrecht

Theodor Aufrecht ( born January 7, 1822 in Leschnitz, Upper Silesia, † April 3, 1907 in Bonn) was an eminent Indologist and Sanskritist.

Upright worked since 1852 at the Bodleian Library in Oxford and worked as a professor of Sanskrit and comparative linguistics from 1861 to 1875 in Edinburgh and from 1875 to 1889 in Bonn. He published the Catalogus Catalogorum, in which all known Sanskrit texts were indexed.

From 1902 he was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.

After his death, he bequeathed his extensive private library, which he had at first intended for his friend and university colleagues Eugen Prym, on the instigation of the library of the University of Bonn.
