Theodor Guschlbauer

Theodor Guschlbauer ( born 1939 in Vienna) is an Austrian conductor.

Life

Theodor Guschlbauer studied at the Vienna Conservatory, the diploma awarded him in 1959 as a conductor. Influential teachers were led by Hans Swarovsky, also Lovro von Matacic and Herbert von Karajan.

He received his first major engagement in 1961 at the Vienna Baroque Ensemble, at the head of which he stood until 1969. At the same time he headed from 1964 the choir of the Vienna Volksoper, then he took over from 1966, the position of the first Kapellmeister at the Salzburg State Theater. His first professional steps in France undertook Theodor Guschlbauer 1969 in Lyon, where he worked as principal conductor before 1971 he rose to become head of opera.

1975 Theodor Guschlbauer was recalled as Kapellmeister to Vienna State Opera. Moreover, he took the same commitment as General Music Director in Linz as well as head of the Bruckner Orchestra in, with which he remained connected for many years and where he last worked 2009 Guest Conductor. 1983 returned the conductor back to France and shaped the music scene of Alsace for 14 years as conductor of the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and as Music Director of the Opéra du Rhin. From 1997 to 2001 he directs the State Philharmonic of the Rhineland -Palatinate in Ludwigshafen.

2001, decided the then 62 -year-old Theodor Guschlbauer, from now on as a freelance conductor with major orchestras, among others cooperate with the Vienna, Munich, London, and Strasbourg Philharmonic; the symphony orchestras in Berlin, London, the RAI and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra; the orchestras of La Scala in Milan, the Roman Academy of Santa Cecilia, the Romanesque Switzerland and in Paris, and the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. Another focus of his work was in addition to Europe in recent years in Japan.

At the Festival, where Theodor Guschlbauer frequently is a guest, include Salzburg, Aix -en- Provence, Orange, Verona, Lucerne, Montreux, Bregenz, Oxford. He also appeared at the Flanders Festival, the Prague Spring Festival, the Chopin Festival in Warsaw and at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and conducted at the opera houses of Vienna, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Paris, Zurich, Geneva, Brussels, Lisbon and occasionally again at the Opéra du Rhin.

Theodor Guschlbauers repertoire includes about 100 opera titles as well as a large number of symphonic works. He has participated in over 60 recordings.

His passion for classical music he shares with his wife. He has a daughter and a son. Since 1983, Strasbourg is his primary residence.
