Theodor Hoffmann (Admiral)

Theodor Hoffmann ( born February 27, 1935 in Gustävel, Circle Wismar ) was Minister of National Defence and Chief of the DDR NVA.

Life

Hoffmann worked from 1949 to 1951 in agriculture, and was from 1951 to 1952 full-time pioneer head. In 1952, he was a sailor of the maritime police. He attended the military academy of the People's Police Lake in Stralsund and joined in 1956 the SED. By 1959 he was commander of a torpedo boat. From 1960 to 1963 he attended the Seekriegsakademie the Soviet Union, where he completed his studies as a graduate from military scientists. Subsequently, he held various management positions in the 6th Flotilla of the People's Navy. From 1971 to 1974 he was chief of the 6th Flotilla with the rank of frigate captain. Thereafter, he was appointed deputy chief of staff for operational work in the People's Navy Command and in 1977 was promoted to Rear Admiral. In 1985 he became Deputy Chief of the People's Navy and Chief of Staff, in 1987 he was appointed chief of the People's Navy ( Deputy to the Minister of National Defence ) in the rank of Vice Admiral.

From 18 November 1989 to 23 April 1990, he was, in the rank of admiral, succeeding Heinz Kessler's Minister of National Defence. Then he held until retirement on 24 September 1990 for him and the transition time newly established office of the Chief of the NPA under the Minister for Disarmament and Defence Rainer Eppelmann.
