Theodor Luts

Theodor Luts (born 2 Augustjul / August 14 1896greg in Kuremaa, Estonia, .. † 24 September 1980 in São Paulo, Brazil) was an Estonian film director and producer. He pioneered the Estonian film history.

Life

The mid-1920s came Theodor Luts with the art of film in contact. It could be used as a self-taught basic skills, including in Paris and Berlin. In Estonia, he founded the company Theodor Lutsu Filmiproduktsioon and worked primarily as a director from 1926 to 1932. He worked closely from 1931 together with the state-subsidized Estonian movie Eesti Kultuurifilm company for which he produced several documentaries.

Theodor Luts went from 1932 to 1944 as a director and film producer in Finland and lived from 1944 to 1946 in Sweden. He then emigrated to Brazil, where he remained active as a film producer and died in 1980.

Cinematic works

Theodor Luts was one of the first directors in Estonia. 24 films have received from him. Alone in 1931, he produced include the documentaries Ruhnu, Kihnu Meie läänerannik yes saared ( "Our west coast and the islands " ) and Kas tunned maad ...? ( "You know the land ... ").

In 1932, he created with Finnish colleagues the first Estonian talkies, Päikese lapsed ( " children of the sun "). Successes were also Luts ' war film Noored Kotkad ( " Young Eagles ", 1927) and the innovative educational film Gaas! Gaas! Gaas! ( 1931). In Finland, he produced, among others, the movies Salainen ase ( "secret weapon", 1943) and Varjoja Kannaksella (1943) and was chief cameraman of the leading Finnish film company Suomi Filmi. 1950 turned Luts in his adopted home of Brazil the movie Caraça, Porta do Céu.

Private life

Theodor Luts was married to Aksella Luts (1905-2005), which can be seen among others in Noored Kotkad as an actress and has co-authored several screenplays. Theodor Luts was the younger brother of the popular Estonian writer Oskar Luts ( 1887-1953 ).
