Theodor Rosetti

Theodor Rosetti ( born May 5, 1837 in Vaslui - Soleşti; † July 17, 1923 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian writer, journalist, lawyer, diplomat, politician and statesman.

Life

He was the son of Gheorghe Rosetti and Caterina Sturdza and the brother of Elena Cuza, the future wife of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Rosetti studied finance and political science in Lviv and Vienna, and law in Paris. After graduation, he served as a judge in Iaşi and a university professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Iaşi.

Theodor Rosetti belonged in 1863 to the founding members of the literary society Junimeaaus the later was the Conservative Party of June crap. As a diplomat, he led in 1872 in Berlin, the first diplomatic representation of Romania. Then his political rise was implemented by the Prime Minister of the country. In the period from January 7, 1875 to March 31, 1876, he was Minister of Agriculture in the cabinet Catargiu. Theodor Rosetti took office the Prime Minister on 23 March 1888 to November 11, 1888 and November 12, 1888 to March 26, 1889 in the so-called " June manure cabinet". In the first term of office he occupied at the same time the post of interior minister.

He also held other offices. In the period of 12 November 1888-22 März 1889 was Rosetti President of the Council and of 5 November 1889 to November 15, 1890 Minister of Justice and by 1885 the National Bank governor. He was also an honorary member of the Romanian Academy in 1891 and in 1906 a judge at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. In the government Maiorescu he was from March 18th 1912 until October 14, 1912 Minister of Finance and a year later from March 27 to July 3, 1913 President of the Senate. Theodor Rosetti died in Bucharest at the age of 85 years.
