Theodor Siebs

Theodor screen ( born August 26, 1862 in Bremen, † May 28, 1941 in Breslau) was a German medievalist germanistischer.

Biography

Theodor sieve studied philology at the universities of Tübingen and Leipzig, where he received his doctorate in 1885. In 1888 he completed his habilitation at the University of Breslau. There he taught as a Privatdozent, 1890 he moved to the University of Greifswald. In 1894 he was an associate professor of German language and literature at the University of Breslau in 1902 full professor. 1903 to 1922 he headed the Academic Institute of Sacred Music from 1929 to 1941, the Department of dialect research. He became professor emeritus in 1929, but taught even further several years. From 1902 to 1939 he was chairman of the Silesian Society of Ethnology.

He was - along with other linguists and representatives of several German theaters - for " the screen ", which was named after him, first published in 1898 and long time authoritative work to control the German pronunciation ( orthoepy ) primarily responsible. In addition, he is considered the founder of modern Frisistik.

In 1881 he became a member of the fraternity Germania Tübingen.
