Theodor Weber

Theodor Hubert Weber ( born January 28, 1836 in Zuelpich; † January 12, 1906 in Bonn) was the second bishop of the Old Catholic Church in Germany.

Life

Theodor Weber attended the Gymnasium in Münster Eifel and studied in Bonn, Munich and Breslau. As a student, he joined the Bonner Wingolf. In 1858 he received his PhD in Bonn Franz Peter Knoodt of Doctor of Philosophy.

The priests ordained Weber 1860 in Breslau. From 1862 he worked as a chaplain in Sagan and 1862-1864 as a religion teacher at the Gymnasium in Sagan. In 1868 his habilitation took place in Wroclaw. He received an appointment as professor there in 1872 extraordinary professor of philosophy and in 1878 Professor Professor. From April 1890 he was a professor of philosophy in Bonn and Vicar General of Bishop Reinkens.

By Bishop Eduard Herzog Weber received episcopal consecration and was from the August 4, 1895 Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of the Old Catholics German. After the death of Hubert Reinkens he administered the diocese from January 5 to March 3, 1896 as episcopal administrator. On 4 March 1896 he was elected with 126 of 128 votes bishop. During his tenure, the creation or the strengthening of the Old Catholic associations for nurses fell for Old Catholic orphanages, for the support of widows and orphans Old Catholic priest, in the municipalities of the creation of men's and women's associations. International negotiations for the 1907 full -recording of the Polish National Catholic Church during his tenure were performed in the U.S. in the Union of Utrecht of the Old Catholic Churches and the Orthodox Churches theological conversations were recorded.

Effect

In his pastoral letters, Bishop Weber was concerned with theological and exegetical questions, but he also spoke at that time to current issues such as the family, the prayer or the social question. In particular, his social and ecumenical work was remarkable at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century.
