Theodor Wilhelm Engelmann

Theodor Wilhelm Engelmann ( born November 14, 1843 in Leipzig, † May 20, 1909 in Berlin) was a German physiologist.

Life

Engelmann visited the St. Thomas School in Leipzig. He then studied medicine and natural sciences at the University of Jena Carl Gegenbaur, then at the Ruprecht -Karls- University of Heidelberg, Georg- August- University of Göttingen and the University of Leipzig. In 1867 he became an assistant to Franciscus Cornelis Donders, his successor as professor of physiology at the University of Utrecht, he was in 1888. In 1877 he served as Rector of the University. From 1897 to 1908 he was professor of physiology ( successor to Emil Heinrich Du Bois -Reymond ) and head of the Institute of Physiology at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin.

According to him, the angel man syndrome and used for the detection of the green gap Engelmann shear test bacteria was named.

In 1895 he gave the Croonian Lecture.
