Theodoret

Theodoret (* 393 in Antioch, Syria; † around 460 in Kyrrhos ) was Bishop of Kyrrhos and a major theologian and church historian since 423.

He defended the teachings of Nestorius and was sentenced for 449 at the Council of Ephesus ( the so-called " Robber Synod " ), 451 but rehabilitated. Theodoret left a large number of works, notably a Greek continuation of the Ecclesiastical History of Eusebius of Caesarea in five books which covers the period up to the beginning of the Nestorian controversy. The work can be - not untypical for the genre - but often miss objectivity; for example, people are judged very negatively with arianischem confession.
